I'll never forget this gentle man behind the big booming voice that spoke for the betterment of the world. Steve was always there for me whether it was to repair something at my home or at the church when I needed emotional support or simply a hug. What a wonderful man who was always trying to make the world a better place for us all, no matter what gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation. The earth has lost a true advocate of quality life.

Steve will always occupy a special place in my heart. He was a wise and encouraging mentor to many. He worked tirelessly to make changes to improve situations in his community and indeed, worldwide. My most memorable interactions with him include the discussion group at Unitarian Universalist Church of Muncie, our trip together to Plains, Georgia to see and listen to Jimmy Carter speak at his Sunday School class (Steve's objective was to ask and encourage former President Carter to speak at Ball State), the privilege of photographing his marriage to Tracy. I took advantage of the opportunity he offered to purchase peace flags as a fundraiser for Water is Basic, the opportunity to see and hear Eva Kor speak at Ball State as arranged by Steve, and I was grateful when he crawled under my car to retrieve a car key that was hidden there when my keys were lost. The last word of advice he offered to me was to keep being my true self. He knew that I loved dancing to the music he made. Thank you, Steve. You'll live on in our deeds and in our hearts, but it will never quite be the same. Peace and Love to you.

Steve's legacy will live on in me and the multitude of others who love him. I will forever cherish the opportunity that I had to work side by side with him in several of his selected organizations and programs, to talk with him about issues that mattered, to celebrate his wedding to the spectacular Tracy, to work his magic on my home repair needs, and to comfort me in my time of bereavement. Steve and Tracy have a very special place in my heart. I admired their union and unconditional love for each other. I love them both and was especially honored when I was in the presence of both of them at meetings, meals, and just because.
