Albert "Al" Chukusky
September 11, 2025
Swansea, South Carolina - Albert "Al" Chukusky, 89, of Swansea, South Carolina, formerly of Frackville, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
Born in Frackville, Pennsylvania, Al graduated from Frackville High School and went on to Penn State University through the ROTC program. He served his country with honor, retiring as a Major from the United States Army. Dedicated to lifelong learning, he went on to earn his MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
After his military service, Al enjoyed a long career with AT&T before retiring. Never one to sit still, he went on to build several businesses, including a recycling company, a machine shop, a used car dealership, a firearms dealership, a warehousing business, and a local bar.
Al was a man devoted to his family. He was always working, thinking, and striving to better the lives of those he loved. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and loved spending time gardening and working outside. He cherished time with his children and grandchildren and was also kind, strong, and generous to people he barely knew, always willing to help someone who was down and out. He was predeceased by his daughter, Debra Chukusky George.
His generosity extended into his community, where he donated an acre of land to serve as an EMS substation and for the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department before the county built its existing EMS complex. He also made a final act of giving by donating his pacemaker to CVETS (Columbia Veterinary Emergency Trauma and Specialty), helping animals in need of critical care. He was also an active member of the Elks Club, where he built friendships and gave back in many ways.
Al is survived by his devoted wife, Arlene; his children Sandra, David, and Michael; his son-in-law Michael Costin; his grandchildren Andrew George, Ali Chukusky (and her wife Alexis Chukusky), and Emily Jurin (and her husband Doug Jurin).
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to Warriors for the Outdoors,
