Alexander Samuel Hahn, 20, of Columbia, died March 3, 2011. He was born June 1, 1990, in Allentown, PA, the son of Mark and Cindy (Farrell) Hahn. He grew up in Latrobe, PA, and moved to this area in 2005 where he attended and graduated from Ridge View High School in 2009. After attending both Coastal Carolina University and Midlands Technical College, he has been working in the hospitality industry working at a number of local restaurants in various positions. Alex was a member of the Civil Air Patrol - Pennsylvania Wing (United States Air Force Auxiliary). He served on the Cadet Staff at the Hawk Mountain Ranger School; the longest running Search and Rescue school in the U.S. Alex held several staff positions where he was recognized as a leader among his peers and the senior staff of the school for his professionalism, leadership and management skills. One of his greatest joys was spending time at his second home at Cape May, NJ. Alex not only loved the beach, but enjoyed outdoor activities such as rock climbing, ocean kayaking and skiing. Everyone who knew Alex would describe him as an enthusiastic, charismatic individual. Always up for a challenge, Alex was happiest when he was outdoors.
Alex is survived by his parents Mark and Cindy of Columbia, SC, and his sister, Carly of Philadelphia, PA. He also leaves his paternal grandmother, Barbara (Clarence) Hahn of Emmaus, PA and maternal grandmother, Evelyn Farrell (Richard) of Laughlintown, PA. He is also survived by his many aunts, uncles and cousins from Pennsylvania, Virginia and Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Northeast United Methodist Church, 4000 Hard Scrabble Road, Columbia, SC 29223-8545, for the funding of various ministries for youth.

Alex was such a light heart and free spirit. I am completely heart broken, I had no idae. Alex was full of positive energy and spontaneity...we had so much fun at CCU going to concerts and parties and kicking back on campus. He had so much to say, so many stories, such a bright presence... he will always be loved and remembered.

Dear Mark & Cindy,
I can not begin to tell you how sad John and I felt when we heard about your Alex. It seems like only yesterday that we would hear you calling for him down the road as a young boy. I can't help but smile when I think about him. We just liked him.
It is so much harder for those of us left behind, but you will hold him again one day. Our thoughts & prayers go with you.
God Bless you Cindy, Mark and all of your Family
