Charles Jordan Obituary

SUMTER - Dr. Charles Frank Jordan Jr., 82, husband of Claudia C. Jordan, died Friday, March 25, 2011 in Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Atlanta, GA, he was a son of the late Charles F. Jordan, Sr. and the late Florence Phillips Jordan. Dr. Jordan was a chemistry professor most recently at Central Carolina as well as Vanderbilt University, the University of Mississippi, and the University of South Carolina. He was also employed in the research and development department of CP Chemical in Sumter for several years. He was an inventor with patents, a published writer, and a licensed pilot. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Sumter; three children, Ruth Jennings Latour of Columbia, James A. Jordan of Tampa, FL, and Sandy Pillar of Tallahassee, FL; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; and three stepchildren, Melvin Brown and John Brown both of Sumter, and Margaret Baker of Mt. Pleasant.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Frank Jordan.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with Dr. James Chandler officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John M. Brown, Jacob E. Brown, Wellington Brewer, Mel Brown, and Daniel Boykin.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home, 402 Haynsworth St.
Memorials may be made to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 811 West Evergreen Ave., Suite 303, Chicago, IL 60642 or to the SPCA, 1140 South Guignard Dr., Sumter, SC 29150.
Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
