David Eckstorm Obituary

MIAMI - David Edward Eckstorm, 67, of Miami died on Tuesday, June 28, 2011. Dave was a friendly, charismatic guy who never met a stranger. His favorite pastimes were telling funny stories, helping his neighbors, and keeping track of the ups and downs of the stock market.

Dave was born in Delaware in 1944 to Edward and Katherine Eckstorm. After graduating first in his class from Georgetown High School in Delaware, Dave attended the University of South Carolina on Naval ROTC scholarship. He entered the Navy upon graduation and served in the Vietnam War aboard the USS John King and the USS Coconino County. He later lived in Columbia (SC), Charlotte (NC), and Annapolis (MD), eventually settling in Miami.

Dave is survived by his three children - Anne Marie Green & her husband Tracey, Andy Eckstorm & his wife Cassandra, and Amy Cathey & her husband Blake - and 6 grandchildren - Colton, Reagan, Trevor, Madelyn, Eli, and Josh. Memorials may be made to The Haiti Orphan Foundation, PO Box 12885, Columbia, SC 29211.

Dave was the most fun-loving guy I've ever met and he touched many people with his outgoing personality. He was always at the top of his class whether he was in high school, college,or Navy training.
Dave raised three wonderful kids who I know will continue his style and tradition.
We will always raise a glass to honor Dave's memory,
Longtime friend, Kathy L.

David was a friend through college, Naval ROTC,the Navy, and the Naval Reserve. Sadly, we were not able to maintain close contact as I moved from Columbia. Farewell, as we say in the Navy: May you have calm seas and a following wind. Hal Henry
