Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2008, at Hopewell Southern Methodist Church near Neeses with Rev. Nathaniel Waites officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Edwin Nix, Kevin Fogle, Derek Fogle, Eddie Armstrong, Kenny Lucas, George Crim and Glenn Keadle. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Fogle, Joe Fogle, Michael Whetstone, Bert Pooser, Dr. Wesley Shuler, Lyman Fogle and Russ McKissick.
Mr. Hoots was born and raised in Hendersonville, NC, a son of the late Dewitt Charles and Julia Seymour Hoots. He played on the basketball team in high school, as well as college. He graduated from N.C. State University with a B.S. degree in aerospace engineering, later becoming an environmental engineer. He formerly worked at the headquarters of ARCO Chemical Company in Newtown Square, PA, where he was the leader of many projects, and led environmental auditing teams for ARCO’s plants all over the U.S. and around the world. He formerly attended Praise Fellowship Church in Downingtown, PA, where he served in such capacities as manning the church sound system, videotaping services for TV, as Men’s Group leader, Bible teacher to adults, Youth Group leader, and Home Group leader.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah “Debbie” Fogle Hoots, who was raised in the Sawyerdale community near North; his son, Sean Michael Hoots of Philadelphia, PA; his daughter, Dana Olivia Hoots, and family, Geoffrey Nelson, and Miles David Nelsen, his only grandchild, all of Thorndale, PA.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Sunday at the church, prior to the service. Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Debbie, I read David's obit in the State paper. I'm fairly sure this is the same David Hoots whom I worked for at Sonoco in the 1980's.
If so, I'm very sorry to learn of his passing. He was a good "boss" in every way. My name at that time was Wayne Gainey and I was David's secretary in the Corporate Safety Department. I remarried 6 years ago. I will pray for you and your children. My older sister has had Alzheimer's for 12 years and my brother is in the early stages of it. It's a tragic situation when this disease attacks our loved ones.
