February 27, 1940 - August 26, 2022
Hartsville, South Carolina - Iris Usher Kennedy, 82, of Hartsville, South Carolina, wife of Dr. William Philip Kennedy, entered into eternal rest Friday, August 26, 2022. Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2022 in John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Highway, Charleston, South Carolina at 11:00 a.m. Burial services will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends Monday, August 29, 2022 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m and immediately following the funeral service on Tuesday.
Iris was born February 27, 1940 in Bennettsville, South Carolina, daughter of Peter Clyde Usher and Kathleen Elizabeth Usher. Iris taught elementary school in Charleston and Virginia Beach before marrying Phil Kennedy, the love her life. They moved to Germany in 1964 where Phil served in the United States Army. In 1968 they settled in Hartsville, South Carolina where they happily raised three children. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, gardening, and spending quality time with her grandchildren. Her most cherished time was spent at the beach surrounded by her entire family.
Iris will be remembered for her infectious smile and unforgettable laugh.
In addition to her husband of 58 years, she is survived by a daughter, Barbara Kennedy Lehnhoff (Richard) of Charleston, SC; sons, William Philip Kennedy, Jr. of Switzerland and Peter Usher Kennedy (Haven) of Asheville, NC; and grandchildren, Lizzie and Caitlin Lehnhoff, Philip and Lily Kennedy, and Ava Mae and Clara Kennedy. The family is grateful to those that are traveling great distances in support of them, especially Kelly Kennedy, who is traveling from the west coast.

Iris was a special person and you were lucky to have enjoyed so many years together. Feel gratefulness that my path crossed into Dr Kennedy & Iris´s life through early career employment in his Hartsville Dental practice in the late 80s into the mid 90s. Iris had a spark & wit that was captivating. Her sharing of a few life lessons are some I found truth in & still recall to this day. I am sorry I am unable to be there for you, but I did not get he information in time and also have a prior commitment Tuesday. I know Iris has been struggling with infirmities for a long time, but now she is at peace. I pray Our Lord will comfort all of your family at this time.
