June & Smythe, When Bill, Jr. drowned all of you grieved with me and in doing so you carried part of my grief in your hearts and on your shoulders. Please know that I am grieving with you now and I pray that my thoughts and prayers, along with those of so many others, will help in some small way to sustain you. It was a true blessing that I was able to visit and enjoy a scotch or two with Jim in his last weeks. Our talks had depth and I witnessed his courage. I witnessed your's too June and the two of you were awesome. I send you my love.

June,
My prayers are with you and your family. I enjoyed the time I was able to spend with you and Jim at Dad's birthday party earlier this year. Jim was always a special person in Dad's life and I know he will be greatly missed.
Friendship is a blessed gift. I am sure from all of the stories I have heard over the years I have no doubt that there will be several thirty niners welcoming him into heaven and several still here that are grateful to have had his friendship all these years.
I will continue to pray for you in the days to come and hope we will also be able to visit again soon.

I was sorry to learn of Jim's death. We knew each other growing up on Preston street in Columbia, were later in the same fraternity at USC, and I further had opportunities to visit through his work as a pharmaceutical representative.
My kindest regards to his family.

Rosa and I were so sorry to read about Jim in today's paper. Jim and I knew each other in grammar school, at Hand Jr. High, and were in the same homeroom for our 4 years at Dreher. In recent years, we enjoyed our chats with you at the Palmetto Club Christmas Party--we'll miss him and will be thinking of the family in the coming days.
