Lloyd Brewer Obituary

WEST COLUMBIA - Service for Rev. Lloyd Frank Brewer Jr., 70, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Trinity Baptist Church, Cayce, SC, officiated by Rev. Michael W. Brewer, Dr. Gerald Harris, Rev. Michael Henderson and Rev. Sam Harmon. Interment will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park, Lexington, SC. Honorary pallbearers will be the Cayce United Methodist Church Women's Morning Circle, Cayce United Methodist Church Choir and any Minister/Minister of Music he has had the opportunity to work with in the past. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2012, at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Rev. Lloyd Brewer Memorial Fund, at Cayce United Methodist Church, 1600 12th St., Cayce, SC 29033.

After serving more than 50 years in the ministry, Rev. Brewer went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, January 24, 2012. Born in Orangeburg, SC, he was a son of the late Rev. Lloyd Frank Brewer Sr. and Ruby Williams Brewer. He was a member and Minister of Music at Cayce United Methodist Church.

Rev. Brewer was a graduate of Wayne County High School, Jesup, GA, Norman Park College, Norman Park, GA, Mercer University, Macon, GA, and Southwestern Seminary, Fort Worth, TX, where he majored in church music and the organ. Rev. Brewer was ordained to the ministry in May of 1967 in Fort Worth, TX. He was often called, "The Piano Man," and shared his talent with the South Carolina Baptist Evangelism Conference for 25 years. He played for the Pastor's Conference, numerous workshops, conferences, and revivals throughout the United States, all the while saying "I sing because I'm happy." His music will be missed here by his friends and family, but now he is happily singing with the one he has always served.

Surviving are his loving wife, Joan Pittman Brewer of West Columbia; daughter, Tiffany Brewer Carroll (Jason Brant) of Lexington; sons, Jeremy Lloyd-Franklyn Brewer and Andrew Derek Brewer, both of West Columbia; sister, Cheryl Hamilton (James) of Martinez, GA; brother, Rev. Michael W. Brewer (Linda) of Charleston, MO; grandchild, Austin Brant Carroll; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dear Joan, and Family,

I am shocked and so saddened to learn of Lloyd's passing. My sincerest condolences and prayers go out to you, Cheryl, Michael, and your families.
I remember Lloyd as a pre-teen in Augusta. His dad, Lloyd, was Pastor of the Lee Memorial Baptist Church, and my wife and I lived in a little duplex next door. At that time, Michael had not been born. We were baptized there and, later, he ordained me as a deacon in the church. The last time that we saw them was in Jesup - when his dad was Pastor of the Baptist Church there. I had so hoped to meet with Lloyd, Jr. and recall all of the wonderful times we had shared in those days. They were the sweetest family ever. What a Glorious day it will be when we all get together in Heaven.
My prayer for all of you is that God will comfort you in this time of loss and sadness, and give you his "Peace That Passeth Understanding."

To The Brewer Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Mr. Brewer was so kind to me and my mother. I will always remember how beautifully he played the piano at Camden First Baptist. Also, he was my accompanist when auditioning for a music scholarship at Furman University. He was such a giving person and shared his talent with so many people. I know I will hear him play again in heaven.
