Luke Howell Obituary
He is survived by his father and mother, Robert and Renee Howell, and sister, Cassie Howell, all of Pelion; paternal grandmother, Annie Howell of Pelion and paternal grandfather, the late James “Slim” Howell; maternal grandmother, Sandra Lucas of West Columbia and maternal grandfather, the late Franklin Lucas. He is also survived by 2 uncles, 6 aunts, their spouses and 19 cousins.
Visitation will be held from 6:00æp.m. to 8:00æp.m. Sunday, July 5, 2009 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00æa.m. Monday, July 6, 2009 at Red Bank Baptist Church in Lexington with interment in Celestial Memorial Gardens in West Columbia. Pallbearers are Carl Shealy, Todd Arthmann, Clint Lloyd, Trey Elrod, Kyle Roland and Jeffery Wise. Honorary pallbearers will be Frankie Howell, James D. Howell, Cade Woods, Branden Woods, Travis Lucas, Phillip Lucas, Jeremy Laffoday, Patrick Laffoday and Bobby Mack. Memorials may be made to the Pelion High School FFA Chapter, 600 Lydia Street, Pelion, SC 29123.

Robert, Renee, and Cassie, our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Luke was a wonderful, well mannered young man. Even if only for a short time we were all blessed to have had him in our lives. Luke will be missed dearly. He was David's (lil' huntin' buddy). God Bless you and your family.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

This seems so unreal. Luke was an awesome guy, definitely funny, big heart, our Lukey Dukey! We miss and love him soo much already. Rest In Peace and Keep it country up there Dukey, We love you!

It is so hard to find the words to say to you at this horrible time in your lives. Things happen in our lives, that we do not understand and this is one of those times. Luke was a fine young man, he was always kind to me no matter the situation. I can see his face so clearly cutting up with me and just being a hoot. Luke will never be forgotten, I meet so many young people in my job that touch my heart and Luke was one of them and I pray that I touched his heart too. I am so thankful for the precious memories of Luke, he was one of a kind. i really caint think of much to say. i miss dukey so much. I considered luke as my second brother. He was always there for me if i needed him. He always helped me with anything i couldnt do myself. He knew how to cheer me up. Everytime we greeted each other it was with a big ol hug. I will always love him. And i will always miss him. He has a very very special place in my heart.

I know that I personally struggled with this tragedy yesterday after receiving a phone call about the events. I know in such a dire time the family and friends are searching for answers. There are sometimes questions without answers. Throughout the day I was hoping this was all a bad dream and soon I would awake. Unfortunately the tragedy was just that, an unimaginable tragedy. Somehow I feel I failed Luke. I know that Luke was always there for anything we asked him to do at Buckhead and beyond as a friend. I am sure that same doubtfulness is being experienced by all of the family and friends. The what ifs and I should haves in these instances are plenty and sometimes unending. There is a question that does have an answer though. In our individual lives we encounter strangers, brief acquaintances, friends and even family relationships and how we impact and influence those crossroads in each others lives is what is important. In the end, simply the question is "Were you better off having a person cross your path or even at times walk the same pathway as you?" Without doubt there are many who can say their paths crossed and followed Luke's and I am sure these same folks would say, I am better off having known Luke. I am glad to be able count myself as one of these fortunate many. RIP Luke.
Please pray for the Lucas and Howell family. The days ahead for them will be rough and they will need our support.
