Mamie Hancock Obituary

WOODROW - Mamie Elizabeth Smith Hancock, 90, widow of Robert D. Hancock, died Friday, October 7, 2011 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Harvey Smith and the late Nell Caughman Smith. She was a member of St. John United Methodist Church in the Springhill community. She was the owner and operator of the Woodrow Grocery for many years.

Survivors include a son, Harvey 'Don' Hancock; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia B. Hancock; grandchildren, Lisa Young (Derrick) of Florence, Kerry Hancock (Leah) of Turbeville, Robert Hancock (Julie) of Wake Forest, NC, Korye McCutchen (Kirk) of Camden, and Wayne Hancock (Renee) of Bishopville; and great-grandchildren, Matthew, Christa, Dusty, Campbell, GiGi, Kody, Emme, Chloe, and Kaitlyn.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert W. 'Bobby' Hancock and a daughter-in-law, Marion Diann Hancock.

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday at St. John United Methodist Church with the Rev. Vince Halter and the Rev. John Howle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Olin McLeod, John Boykin, Dale Bradshaw, Legrand Bradshaw, Phil Smith, and Tyler Grainger.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 P.M. Sunday at St. John United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577 or to St. John United Methodist Church, c/o Libby Keeling, 855 WSK Farm Rd., Sumter, SC 29153.

Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of the arrangements.
