Marc Boudreaux Obituary

Marc Boudreaux
November 22, 1967 - June 24, 2023
Snellville, Georgia - Marc J. Boudreaux, age 55, of Snellville, GA passed away on June 24, 2023. Marc was born on November 22, 1967, in Baton Rouge, LA to his parents Julie Marie Nesbit and John A. Boudreaux. Marc was a true scholar. He earned a multitude of diplomas and maintained a thirst for knowledge throughout his entire life. He was an avid sports-nut and a devoted music fan - especially for the LSU Tigers and his favorite bands, Rush and Tool. Marc has been known to say on multiple occasions, "Neil Peart was the greatest drummer in the world."
Marc graduated from Cardinal Newman High School in Columbia, SC, after which he moved to Louisiana to attend Louisiana State University where he earned a BS in Psychology, with a minor in Political Science, a BS in Microbiology, and a BS in Biochemistry with a minor in Chemistry. As a microbiologist, he conducted research in infectious disease, virology, toxicology, and immunology. In his free time, Marc volunteered in a Big Buddy program and in a faith-based recovery program for people in impoverished areas.
Marc was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Madeline Ortlieb Nesbit and Wilbur D. "Boots" Nesbit, his paternal grandparents Ruby Boudreaux and Guy J. A. Boudreaux, his stepfather Kenneth W. Ewing, his sisters Martine M. Boudreaux and Tammy Ewing, his brother Troy Ewing and his stepsister Laurie Ewing.
Marc is survived by his mother Julie M. Nesbit, his father John A. Boudreaux (Carol), sister Kristen J. Maxfield (Dave), brothers Beau D. Boudreaux (Dorothy) and Guy C. Boudreaux, stepbrother Sean Ewing and stepsister Dawn E. Mills (Allan). He has 11 nieces and nephews and 4 great nieces and nephews. His nephews and nieces are Grayson Maxfield, Alex Maxfield, Juliette Maxfield, Olivia Boudreaux, Lauren Boudreaux, Emma Ewing, Beau Thompson, Blake Ewing, Nicholas Ewing, Patrick Mills and Stephen Mills. His great nieces and nephews are Amelia Maxfield, Bentley Thompson, Aaudi Thompson and Karter Ewing.
Marc was notoriously stubborn, which served him well after his original brain tumor diagnosis in 2003. He dove headfirst into research and found the world-renowned micro neurologist, Professor M. Gazi Yasargil and his wife (a well published neurological nurse, Diane Yasargil) - and asked for them to take him on as a client to perform Marc's first brain surgery in Little Rock, AK. While the surgery was considered a success, the tumor returned 5 years later, he had a second surgery that was performed in San Francisco in 2008, and a third surgery at Emory in 2018. Unfortunately, the tumor returned again in 2023 as a stage 4 glioblastoma. Marc was one of the very rare cases to have survived with a glioblastoma for more than 2 years. He survived for 20 years likely due to his stubbornness and vigilant research.
Marc was a devout member of the Catholic Church of St. Monica in Duluth, GA. The community of friends he made as a parishioner brought him much peace and joy in his final years. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all of those who have assisted him while a part of his church community. He has been known to say that the group of people who offer their prayer is large, and "they pray often," and for that he found comfort.
A celebration of life Mass will be held at the Catholic Church of St. Monica in Duluth, GA on Thursday, July 6th at 11am with a reception to follow at the church. Burial will be in Baton Rouge, LA to be held at later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the American Brain Tumor Association. https://www.abta.org/

I'll always remember how Marc would rib and joke with Troy when I was young. Troy would always have the biggest grin on his face when he did.
