Marshall "Mac" Clinkscales BAMBERG - Marshall McGowan "Mac" Clinkscales of Bamberg, South Carolina, died Sunday, June 26, 2016. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. and funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Trinity United Methodist Church of Bamberg, South Carolina, with the Rev. David Caughman officiating. Burial with military honors will follow the service in Trinity United Methodist Church Memorial Garden. Mr. Clinkscales was born in Abbeville County, October 22, 1924. He was the son of the late Marshall McGowan Clinkscales and the late Nita Adams Clinkscales. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bamberg since 1951, serving as teacher of the adult men's and women's Sunday School Class for 50 years as well as serving on many of the boards of the church. Mr. Clinkscales served in the U.S. Army Infantry in Europe during World War II in the campaigns of Central Europe, Rhineland, and Ardennes and was a Bronze Star recipient. After graduating from Clemson University, Mr. Clinkscales came to Bamberg in 1950 and was employed by the Bamberg Textile Mills where he worked for 32 years, serving as president and treasurer. He also served the city of Bamberg for 13 ½ years as clerk and treasurer. He served on the Advisory Boards for SCN Bank and The First National Bank of Orangeburg. He served on the Board of Directors of Home Federal Savings & Loan Association of Bamberg for 49 years, beginning in 1963. Mr. Clinkscales also served as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Shalom Zone Mission Cottage, Inc., in Bamberg and was a past chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Methodist Home in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He was a past chairman of the Inaugural Bamberg County Council. He served as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bamberg County Memorial Hospital. In 1976 he was named Bamberg County Citizen of the Year. Mr. Clinkscales was preceded in death by his wife, Maude Louise Bull Clinkscales. Survivors include son, Norman Bull Clinkscales (Tracey) of Destin, Florida; daughters, Sallye Clinkscales Bunch (Allen) of Bamberg, South Carolina, and Margaret Guess (Meg) Clinkscales Kelly (Larry) of Pawleys Island, South Carolina; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 335, Bamberg, SC 29003 or to a charity of choice.
