Michael Rabkin Obituary
May 7, 1944 - September 4, 2024
Columbia, South Carolina - A visitation for Dr. Michael Frederick Rabkin, will be held Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 4-5:30 PM at the home of Katy and Wade Mullins. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org.
Michael, 80, died Wednesday, September 4, 2024. He was born May 7, 1944, in New York City, the son of the late Eleanor Morgan and Leo Rabkin.
Michael earned a B.A., from Queens College, in New York City, and later he received his D.D.S., and M.S., in Prosthodontics-Implantology, from NYU College of Dentistry.
Not only did Michael have a long career as an oral surgeon, but he also taught cutting-edge implantology with multiple publications. After retiring from dentistry in New York, he came to Columbia, SC, and practiced dentistry for the Department of Mental Health and the Department of Juvenile Justice.
In retirement, Michael developed a true passion for woodworking. He progressed from being a novice woodworker in 2000 to becoming a master artisan and sought after teacher in 2013. Michael produced very special and unique works.
Michael is survived by his wife of 31 years, Margaret Barksdale, and her children, Legare Jones, Libby Love, Molly Kornegay (Grainger), Lois Smith (Geoffrey), Katy Mullins (Wade); 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and his beloved sheepadoodle (Lucy).
Other than his parents, Michael was predeceased by his brother, Robert Rabkin.

My condolences to Margaret and all of Michael's family and friends. Michael was of service to so many people and I am grateful to be one of many who considered him a friend. He had a beautiful smile and gave a kind word to many. I loved his sense of humor.
We will miss you Michael.

Mark and I are sorry to hear of Michael's passing. He was a good friend to us, most particularly, he and Margaret were good to Mark while he was getting back on his feet.
