Columbia, South Carolina - Mitchell Walter Silver, 70, died on April 19, 2024.
Mitchell was born on January 9, 1954 to Sol Silver and Helen L. Silver in Columbia, SC. He graduated from Midlands Technical College with an Associate in Public Services in 1976 and served in the United States Air Force. Mitchell met his wife while serving overseas in the Philippines and they married on August 1, 1989. Mitchell worked at Sears department store in the Midlands for over 30 years from 1986 until the store's closing in 2017, followed by working at the Columbia Place Mall where Sears was located until his retirement.
Mitchell is survived by his wife of 34 years, Maria Silver, and his daughter Marie Silver.
Mitchell enjoyed reading the newspaper every day, watching television shows, going to the movies, listening to music, and going on regular walks around his neighborhood and nearby locations. He also enjoyed spending time at home with his wife and daughter.
He will be missed by family, friends, and all who knew him.
Funeral services featuring military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Mitch was my very first date.
As I recall, I believe I was 16 years old and he was such a gentleman. We had a great evening together. My parents thought the world with him as soon as they met him that night. I'm so sorry to hear that he's gone.

I am so sorry to hear of Mitch passing. We met in the late 60's as teenagers gawking over the guitars and amps at a music store in downtown Columbia. We subsequently became friends and were in a band together for a short time. We stayed in touch over many years. I would run into him at the RCPL Cooper Branch or the Kroger on Forest Dr. when we lived in Columbia. Mitch was a fine person and I have fond memories of both of his parents. My deepest sympathy go out to his wife and daughter.
