SaraBelle Krapfel Obituary

SaraBelle Segmiller "Seg" Krapfel COLUMBIA - Mrs. SaraBelle Segmiller "Seg" Krapfel passed away November 7, 2012 after a courageous, 2 ½ month battle with Pancreatic Cancer. A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, November 13 at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends Monday, November 12 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Kornegay and Moseley Funeral Home, 4645 Hard Scrabble Rd., Columbia, SC 29229. A private family interment will be held out-of-state at a later date. Mrs. Krapfel was born in Wilkinsburg, PA on June 23, 1929. She was the daughter of the late William Charles Segmiller, Sr. and Myrtle Wineman Segmiller. Mrs. Krapfel graduated from Beaver High School, earned a B.S. degree in Nursing Education from Chatham College in Pittsburgh, and graduated from Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing (Pittsburgh) as a registered nurse. Prior to a family move to Columbia, SC in 1969, Mrs. Krapfel held various nursing positions at Warren (PA) State Hospital, Cook County Hospital (Chicago) and Fahey Medical Center (Des Plaines, IL). In 1972, she became a school nurse with Lexington School District 5. In her 24 year career as a school nurse, Mrs. Krapfel assisted many students at Irmo High School, Seven Oaks Elementary School, and Leaphart Elementary School. She was a member of Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sr. High Youth Advisor and a member of the Lydia Circle. Her faith was paramount in how she lived her life. Seg was an avid sports enthusiast. She enjoyed bowling and playing golf before raising her boys, and she never missed a youth ballgame as they grew up. Seg was an avid Gamecock fan, attending most home football, basketball, and baseball games for 30+ years. Grandma Seg particularly loved all seven of her grandchildren. Through the years, she took each of them on several trips across the country. She and her husband were fixtures at various athletic events, recitals, and school functions. Most importantly, she showed them, by example, how to live. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John Richard Krapfel; sons Richard William (Jean) of Hickory, NC, Timothy John (Susan) of Centerville, OH, and Bradley Dale (Kimberly) of Columbia, SC. Grandchildren Sarah (Charleston, SC) and James Krapfel (Raleigh, NC); Morgan, Ross, and Timmy Krapfel (Centerville, OH); Katherine and John Krapfel (Columbia, SC). Mrs. Krapfel was predeceased by her parents and brother, Dr. William C. Segmiller. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, "Seg" Krapfel's contagious smile and personality will be missed by her family and the many, many friends that she had. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the loving and caring staff of Agape Hospice House. Memorials may be made to Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church, 530 Saint Andrews Rd., Columbia, SC 29210 or the Agape Senior Foundation, 1053 Center Street, West Columbia, SC 29169. I am so sorry about the loss of your mother. She was a wonderful woman and I was so blessed to be part of her extended family. I have many fond memories of her growing up and throughout my life. She brought a ray of sunshine where ever she went, and always lots of fun. I will cherish the memory of our trip together last year to Pittsburg. Love to you all. Deb
