Mr. Quattlebaum was born on June 1, 1926 in Saluda County. He was the oldest surviving child of the late William Melvin Quattlebaum and Bertha Elizabeth Bledsoe Quattlebaum.
Tom is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia "Patsy" DeLoach Quattlebaum; three daughters, Pamela Q. Combs (Don) of Norfolk, VA, Anne Q. DuRant (Bruce) of Charleston and Patricia Q. Kirtley (Chris) of Chapin; and seven grandchildren, Kathryn D. Rogers (Travis), Cole Combs, Douglas DuRant, Ford Combs, Sydney Menger, Addison Menger, and Steven Kirtley. He is also survived by siblings, John W. Quattlebaum (Cindi), M. Frances Cogburn (Steve), William M. Quattlebaum (Cephia), Melvin E. Quattlebaum (Susan), O. Randolph Quattlebaum (Pat), and James H. Quattlebaum (Norma). He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles R. Quattlebaum.
Mr. Quattlebaum graduated from Saluda High School in 1944. He was a United States Army Veteran and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Quartermaster Division and was stationed in Panama until his Honorable Discharge in 1947. Tom was the sole proprietor of Quattlebaum Heating & Air Conditioning until his retirement. He was active in the community serving as a volunteer fireman and rescue squad member for many years. He was a former member of the Lions Club, Monday Night Supper Club and Persimmon Hill Country Club and was also a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for over fifty years.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 16 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Ramey Funeral Home in Saluda. A service of death and resurrection, officiated by the Reverend Robert Cox, will be held on Tuesday, January 17 at 2 P.M. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 102 E. Butler Ave., Saluda. A graveside burial service with Military Honors will follow at Travis Park Cemetery, Travis Avenue, Saluda. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church Family Life Center, to Hospice Care of South Carolina or to a hospice of your choice.
