On Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022, Michael Wayne Masencup, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away at the age of 70 in his home surrounded by the love of his family. Mike, as he was known to his family and friends, graduated from Mt. Tabor High School in 1971 before joining the United States Army and spending six years as a medic with the 312th Evacuation Hospital. After being honorably discharged, he went to work for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, where he dedicated 34 years of continuous service before retiring and enjoying spending his extra time traveling and being with his family. Mike was proud to be a long-time member of the Oldtown Masonic Lodge and enjoyed working in his yard, spending time outdoors, and traveling with his wife to the beach. Mike had one of the biggest hearts in the world and loved to help others, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents Bruce and Dorothy Masencup, as well as his stepson, Justin Twiggs. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Masencup; daughters Courtney Flinchum and Emily Colclough; grandchildren, Hayleigh, Johnny, Jacob, Jackson, Lucas, and Sloane; sisters Debbie (Dalton) Caffey, Tammy Masencup; brothers Steve (Karen) Masencup, Mitch (Joy) Masencup; four nephews, three nieces, and several special cousins. The family would like to thank Trellis Supportive Care for the amazing care and support they provided, as well as a very special thanks to his nephew, Josh Caffey, and daughter, Courtney, for taking on the role of his in-home caregivers. A brief service was held, followed by visitation on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 2 pm at Salem Funeral Home, 2951 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that you make a donation to Trellis Supportive Care in Mike's name. Online condolences may be made at www.salemfh.com.
