David Haron Obituary

Scarborough - A child of God was sent to us and now God has called him home.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Christopher Haron, 62, of 143 Fogg Road, Scarborough, on Saturday, January 30th, 2021 at Maine Medical Center after a period of declining health.
David was born in Brockton, Mass. to Charles S. and Jean Haron, and older brother "Danny" on December 23, 1958. He was raised by his family in Attleboro, Mass and in 2002 moved to Maine to be closer to his Mother and Sister.
David was preceded in death by all 4 of his grandparents, his father Charles S. Haron, his stepmother Patricia A. Haron, uncles James M. Haron and Paul M. Goulston, aunt Elizabeth A. Goulston, cousins James Haron and Miriam L. Goulston and nephew Michael P. Glennon.
David is survived by his mother, Jean Haron and her wife Sandra A. Simpson; his older brother C. Daniel Haron and his wife Mary B. Haron and their 5 children Kathryn E. Haron, Jonathan C. Glennon, Carleigh A. Haron, Patrick R. Glennon, and Dr. Courtney D. Haron; his younger brother Thomas R. Haron and his wife Cynthia M.; his sister Susan E. De Cesare and his best friend and brother-in-law, Lawrence E. De Cesare with their children Liza, Bruce, and Leah De Cesare, as well as many cousins and extended family Matt DiBiase, Taylor Hart, Chris Ingraham, Meirgani Alaari, Bibek Karki, Josh, Sarah, Behr and Dakota Dennison, Anne and Steve Beaulieu, and Mike "Diesel" and Nancy Josey.
David was born with a special gift that could make anybody smile. He would spread love and laughter wherever he went. David was always thankful for everything he had including his John Deer Tractor. He would drive "his baby" around his yard for hours, making sure every night that the tractor was put away and tucked in before he went to bed.
David attended Auburn Methodist Church and then Clark Memorial Methodist Church. He loved to sing, watch his movies, and was always proud to say the blessing at family gatherings.
David was one of 7 boys who belonged to the Webelos Cub Scout Pack 69, established for retarded boys under the sponsorship of the Attleboro Area Association for Retarded Children and Attleboro Elks Club. David continued with Scouts and became the first special needs boy to become an Eagle Scout in New England in 1982.
David was introduced to the water and loved to swim. He participated in many Special Olympic Swim meets and has won hundreds of medals. He was a member of the Cape Elizabeth Pool and the YMCA for many years.
David attended Work Opportunities Unlimited for the past 18 years. Through this program for years David had a one on one with his staff Dan Ruiz. Some of David's community volunteer jobs included Cape Elizabeth High School Cafeteria, Southern Maine Agency on Aging, Pine Point Nursing Home, Ruth's Reusable Resources, shopping for the elderly and Wayside Food programs. David worked one summer at Wendy's and more recently at the Portland International Jetport - he was thrilled to get a paycheck!
David loved getting coffee at Dunkin' Donuts, Tim Horton's and Cumberland Farms. He enjoyed going to the school bus stops to see his friends get on the bus, bowling on Fridays, camping and being around family. Enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk on Saturdays nights and loved the Three Stooges. David believed in Santa and always made sure there were cookies and milk for him. He loved to get dressed up in his Halloween costume and trick or treat, always donating his candy so that his dental hygienist, Kelly, wouldn't get mad. David was the life of the party and loved to dance and have a good time.
Family and friends may pay their respects at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland, ME on Saturday, February 6th, 2021 from 4 to 6 pm. A private funeral service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Special Olympics of Maine, Attn: Phil, 125 John Roberts Road, #5, South Portland, ME 04106, that honors the life, love and accomplishments of David Haron.
David you are the light of our lives, the star of our hearts and we will see you on the other side.

Dear Dan,

It was with great sadness that I read of the loss of your brother, David. Thank you for the beautiful tribute in the Sun Chronicle. I have such fond memories of David from my time working at the Camp-4-Fun at Attleboro High School. His amazing smile and continual source of eagerness to greet each day taught me well to appreciate all that life has to offer. As I still live in Attleboro and am affiliated with many of the organizations that work with the “kids” that attended the camp as well as seeing them at places they work, I often run into some of them such as David Dee, Annie Podsiadlo, David Bunker, Arnold Nicholas, and Chris Volpe to name a few.

Please send my condolences to your mom as well as the whole family.

May the memories of your yesterdays, ease the sorrows’ of your tomorrows.

In kind regards ~ Pam (Masse) Bliss

I was one of the lucky ones, I got to know David, at the C.E. High School. Being a custodian, is a busy job, and this day I was behind. Well, David and his crew couldn't came at a better time. His presence is always felt, where ever he goes, he will be missed. He was one nice guy.

David had a smile that was both impish and irresistible, and he enjoyed everyone that stopped to spend a few minutes to chat with him so he could tell you about his dog, or maybe his “homework” and that Santa or the Easter Bunny was coming and always about his swimming, he was a champion swimmer.
David loved sneaking candy from my basket on the desk and thought it was very funny that my name was Candy.
He was a breath of fresh air and always a joy when he came to the SMAA office.

To Jean and all of David's family,
Please accept my sincere sympathy on David's passing, in many ways Camp 4 Fun Days don't seem that long ago - but realistically speaking - they sure are. The picture of David is so perfect in that it captures that smile that was so characteristic of him; I am sure he kept it across the decades! Prayers for all of you at this sad time of goodbye to a son and brother.

I am so sorry to heart of David's passing. I worked at Southern Maine Agency on Aging for many years. I could always count on a smile from David when he visited. And, no matter how difficult a day I might have been having, I always smiled after I spent a few minutes talking to David.

David was such a positive influence in our lives. He enriched us with his innocence. We are the fortunate ones to have known him. We will carry all of our camping memories "don't look Anne, I naked" with us forever. As we have been saying, there are many Davidsms and we will cherrish them forever.

We send our deepest sympathies to Sue, Larry, Jean, Sandy, and all of his family. Thank you for sharing him with us.

David was truly one of the most remarkable people I ever knew. He had a heart of gold and was always smiling and laughing. Regardless of your circumstances, you couldn't help but be happy in his presence. In the 1970s, my family and I spent many joyful and memorable days with the Haron family on Handy Street, especially in the summer. David was always a blast to hang out with - especially in the pool - and even though he was 8 years older than me, I never noticed. I vividly recall how proud I, his family, and all of Attleboro was in 1982 when he earned his Eagle Scout badge. The celebration for David at the Elk's Lodge was attended by hundreds including local and state officials. It was covered by TV news stations and all the newspapers. I'll never forget it...! I'm grateful that I was there and could say that David was a friend. The world was definitely a better place with David Haron in it. He touched so many people and spread good cheer and kindness wherever he went. God bless him and his family.

David will forever live in my heart and his memories bring the bright joy and warm love that he emitted every day. He showed us that life’s happiness is found with being with those you care about and being kind to all. One could always count on his strong work ethic and reliability, his warm heartfelt greetings, his joy of Christmas and strong spirituality, and his delight in celebrating birthdays. He had a magical way of making each individual feel like they were the most special person in the world. Perhaps it was because of his own unique gift of loving kindness.

Knock knock
Who's there?
A bear!
David Haron

David you were in our lives for just a while, but you have been in our hearts since the day we met you. We still tell and laugh at your Knock Knock joke. When we go to the theater to see a movie, we often call it a moogie. It is one of those endearing things that we say to honor and not to tease. We remember talking to David about his swimming on many occasions. He was never shy about telling everyone he won the Olympics. We miss our days at Clark Memorial and David is one of the big reasons why.
Sandy and Jean, we are thinking of you, sending love and saying prayers for your family's comfort. Thank you for bringing David into our lives.

We were lucky to have an awesome group of people to grow up with in our neighborhood, David was one of those people. He was always around and always kept us laughing. We all have so many "David" stories. Kory and I laugh all the time thinking about him and even have David-isms that only people who knew him would understand. I'm sad to hear of his passing. I wish we could have seen one more time. ❤
