David McIntyre Obituary

Atty. David I. McIntyre, Esq., 81, passed away on December 3, 2024 after a long illness. A native of Attleboro, MA, David spent most of his professional life there; he resided with his wife and family in Seekonk, MA.

Born on Sept. 12, 1943, David was the son of the late John W and Margaret McIntyre. He is survived by his spouse, Elsa (Humphrey) McIntyre, his daughter, Susanna Philibert and his son, Patrick McIntyre. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Emma and Logan Philibert, as well as by his sisters, Elizabeth McIntyre and Patricia Odell; his three surviving brothers, Thomas, Robert, and John, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Michael and James.

After graduating from Attleboro HS in 1961, David earned a BA and MA in History from Providence College. He served in the Peace Corps in Grenada, West Indies, where he met and married his wife Elsa. The two settled in Westerly, RI where he taught History in the public schools. He left that career in the mid-1970s to study law at Boston College, graduating with a JD in 1980. He practiced law in Attleboro, MA from then until his retirement. He also served as the Executive Director of the Fred M Roddy Foundation from 2006 until 2017, after which ill health made it impossible for him to continue in that role.

David loved to make people laugh and never lost the ability to do so. From limericks in his college newspaper to joking with every waiter and waitress he ever met, David enjoyed finding the funny in every situation. He played the lead in an Attleboro Community Theater production of Arsenic and Old Lace as a young man and considered it one of his greatest achievements. A member of the Attleboro Serra Club and Elks, he played a leadership role in both and put his sense of humor to use whenever he spoke to those groups. David played tennis (on his high school and college teams) and described himself as the "lean lefty" in that capacity.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM on Dec. 28th, at St. John the Evangelist Church, 1 St.John's Place, Attleboro, MA. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor David's life may consider donations to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund (https://curealz.org/giving/donate/) or to a charity of their choice in his honor.
