Edward O'Brien Obituary

Edward A. O'Brien, 76, of Leominster formerly of Lunenburg passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 in the Health Alliance Leominster Hospital.

Ed was born in Brooklyn, NY, on February 5, 1948, to the late Patrick J. and Marjorie (Rochford) O'Brien. and grew up in Attleboro. The youngest of four brothers, known as the "Four Shamrocks," he graduated from Msgr. James Coyle High School in Taunton in 1966. He then received his bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1970 and attended graduate school at Babson College. Ed was a manufacturing system consultant for Systems Software Associates prior to his retirement. He had resided in Lunenburg since 1978.

Ed loved the ocean, especially Cape Cod, and golfing. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan. He could be found manning the grill at any family gathering, a Johnny Walker red on the rocks with a splash in his hand. He was a voracious reader and a skilled musician who made a friend everywhere he went. He was often tinkering away in the garage, building and fixing many cherished objects. He was well-traveled and incredibly smart. More than anything, he loved his family.

He is survived by the love of his life, his beloved wife of 53 years, Donna L. (Gamache) O'Brien of Leominster; a daughter, Jennifer L. O'Brien and her wife, Deborah K. Robes of Belchertown; two grandchildren, Jason and Alison Meizels, and three bonus grandchildren, Emma, Grace, and Benjamin Robes-Kenworthy; a sister-in-law, Ann O'Brien of Mount Pleasant, SC; brothers-in-law Dennis Gamache and wife Denise of Scottdale, AZ, and Brian Gamache and wife Tamara of Naples, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Ed is predeceased by his parents, his brothers Patrick, Dennis, and James O'Brien, and his sister-in-law Marcia O'Brien.

His funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 21 at 11 AM in Saint Boniface Church, 817 Massachusetts Ave., Lunenburg. A visitation period will be held prior to the funeral Mass in the church on Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:45 AM..

Burial will be held in St. John's Cemetery in Attleboro at a later date.
