Robert Francis Desrosiers, born on December 8, 1939, in Central Falls, RI, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2024, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro, MA. Robert was a cornerstone in his community and deeply loved by all who knew him.
Robert was enlisted in the United States Marine Corp from 1956 to 1959 where he played the trumpet as a member of the Drum and Bugle Corp. He spent the majority of his professional life in the jewelry manufacturing sector working for Texas Instruments in Attleboro, MA; W.E Richards Jewelry in Attleboro, MA; B A Ballou CO. of East Providence, RI; and the Marathon Company in Attleboro, MA before retiring in 2005. Robert attended Sacred Heart Academy, Central Falls, RI, and took night classes at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. He was a member of the Attleboro Foreman's Club and was an active and involved parishioner at the Parish of St. Stephen's church in Attleboro.
In the church community, Robert was a beacon of faith and service at the former St. Stephen's Church in Attleboro, MA. He lectured weekly mass, sang, and played the guitar in the music ministry, was a member of the church's finance committee, volunteered at parish outings, picnics, garage sales, and bazaars. He was an active leader in the prayer meetings at St. Stephen's and participated in many retreats and events at the LaSallette Shrine. In 2010, when St. Stephen's merged with Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Seekonk, MA, Robert attended mass faithfully.
Robert had a love for baseball and was an avid Red Sox fan. He was always available for a game of catch with the neighborhood kids and had an uncanny ability to whistle tunes that would lift anyone's spirits. He enjoyed long drives with his wife, visiting friends and family, playing rummy, shooting pool, and taking walks in search of the perfect walking stick. At home, he would relish an old western movie, read the newspaper, water his lawn, and listen to spiritual music.
Robert is survived by his devoted wife, Cecile (Vilandre) Desrosiers. The couple was married on May 7, 1960, and shared a life filled with love. He is also survived by his daughter, Denise Stevenson and her husband, Michael of Attleboro, MA; his son, Raymond Desrosiers of Attleboro, MA; his daughter, Renee Brown and her husband Brian of Seekonk, MA; his daughter, Ann McCarthy and her husband, Daniel of Attleboro, MA; his grandchildren, Craig Stevenson of Douglas, MA, Adam Stevenson of West Warwick, RI, Jaime Morin of Pawtucket, RI, Devan and Raegan McCarthy, as well as Michael and Thomas Desrosiers all of Attleboro, MA; his siblings, Madeleine Quinn of Attleboro, MA, Gerard (Victoria) Desrosiers of Pawtucket, RI; brother-in-law Andrew Dufresne of Martha's Vineyard, and Joseph Belliveau of North Smithfield, RI; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Omer and Rhea Desrosiers. Robert was the brother of the late Claire Dufresne, Suzanne (Henry) Mayben, Jeannette (Arthur) Corneau, Maurice Desrosiers, Grace Desrosiers, and Lucille Belliveau. He was the brother-in-law to the late Claire Vilandre and Norman Quinn. Robert's legacy is carried forward by Cecile, along with the numerous lives he touched with his kindness and warmth.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday, June 9, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main Street, Attleboro, MA. Burial will immediately follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery, 683 South Main Street, Attleboro, MA.
