Charlene Campbell Felkel
AIKEN -- Charlene Campbell Felkel, 70, of Aiken, passed away on Friday May 24, 2024, at her home.
Born in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of Mrs. Billie Jo Acker Campbell and the late Charles G. Campbell.
Charlene loved her family deeply and is survived by her husband John A. Felkel, Jr.; sons Preston Felkel (Mindy) of Lexington, SC and Warren Felkel (Margaret) of Hartsville, SC; and her mother of Belton, SC.
Additional survivors include her grandson Aaron of Lexington and granddaughters Anna and Caroline of Hartsville; and uncle J. David Acker of Belton. Charlene was predeceased by her brother David L. Campbell of Belton.
Charlene was a devoted Christian. Her daily prayer was to help others and share the love of Jesus with everyone she met. She felt richly blessed to have a close, loving and supportive family, as well as many divinely chosen sisters and brothers in Jesus.
Following graduation from Belton-Honea Path High School in 1971, Charlene received her Bachelor's degree in Nursing from The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Her professional career began as a cardiac care nurse at hospitals in Columbia. She earned a Master's degree in Nursing from The University of South Carolina in 1978 and continued to work in Columbia as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. Charlene was a beloved professor of nursing at USC-Aiken for 13 years. She also practiced 18 years in physicians' offices in Aiken as a Certified Advanced Practice Family Nurse Practitioner. In 2013 she opened her own free-standing medical practice, Focus on Health in Aiken, which she owned, operated and enjoyed caring for her patients until her retirement in 2022.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 28 in the Chapel of Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home, Aiken, SC. A graveside burial was later the same day in Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg.
