Godfrey - Arthur M. Tomerlin Jr., 79, passed away peacefully at 10:59 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, IL.
Born on August 22, 1945, in Alton, IL, Arthur was the son of the late Arthur Marion and Irene (Breeden) Tomerlin Sr.
He married Holly Mae Wouk on April 22, 1967, in Alton, IL. She preceded him in death on October 2, 2020.
Arthur proudly served in the United States Army, as part of the 101st Airborne Infantry, from 1967 to 1969. During his service, he was awarded several honors, including the Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, three Bronze Stars, two Air Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, the Good Conduct Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and recognition as an expert in Rifle, Pistol, and Machine Gun.
After his military service, Arthur worked as a freight merchandiser at Peavey Barge Line and Illinois American Water Company. In his personal life, he loved fishing, hunting, boating, and spending time with his family. Arthur was also a member of the Alton VFW Post 1308.
Arthur is survived by his son, Christopher "Chris" (Donna) Tomerlin of Normal, IL; his daughter, Tara Ann Tseng (William) of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; and his beloved grandchildren, Nathan Tomerlin of Noblesville, IN, Zachary Tomerlin of Normal, IL, and Maddie Tseng of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his brother, Jess Tomerlin.
In lieu of a service, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
