Mr Charles Hamilton
I, like the Hamiltons, started at JCHS in the fall of 1954. I took four years of Agriculture under the teaching team of Mr. Charles Hamilton and Mr. Paul Carey. They were excellent teachers and mentors. In addition, the Hamiltons were class sponsors for the class of "58 for a number of years. We as graduates owe much to all these teachers.
Most of our field trips to local farms and Ag related business were curriculum related;however, many like FAA events were extra-curricular and involved teacher personal time and personal automobiles. A few of my favorite memories include:
*Attending the National FAA convention in Kansas City (then former president of the USA H.S.Truman was a speaker).
* The annual pest control competitions. Two teams were formed and competed by bringing in grocery bags of bird heads, rat tails, etc. each week. Each pest had a value for the competition. Losing team had to prepare and serve a chili dinner for the winners and parents.
* The state FAA convention in Springfield where I tasted my first pizza.
* Field trip visits to the Ag campuses of ISU (our team won a judging contest sponsored by the Duroc Breeders Association), U of I (I graduated there with a BS in January 1963) and SIU.
* During the final week (perhaps after graduation?) the teachers, using their personal automobiles, took the graduating senior guys (no girls enrolled at that time) to Lake of Ozarks. We brought food from home, "camped" along a dirt farm road, cooked over an open fire and slept under blankets (no sleeping bags or tents). On the second morning, we woke up in the middle of a herd of feeder cattle. Certainly beyond the call of duty for a teaching team.
Thanks for the memories! Michael Mourning

Remember Mr. Hamilton from JCHS. If I'm not mistaken, he drove a Renault at that time, which was unusual. My condolences to the family.
