David Yates Obituary

David Yates
Glen Carbon - David Shelby Yates, 88, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Meridian Village Care Center in Glen Carbon.
Born March 29, 1935 in Ridgely, TN, he was the son of Theron and Dorothy (Law) Yates.
David served in the TN National Guard and had worked as an independent concrete finisher and was Owner/President of Waggoner Crane Rental before retiring. He was a member of Southern Illinois Builders Association (SIBA), Construction Owner Council Association (COCA), and Specialized Crane and Riggers Association (SC&RA). He had been a member of the Wood River Jaycees and Wood River Lion's Club.
David was fun loving and enjoyed making everything fun. He loved his family with his whole heart. He will be remembered for his quick wit, mentoring and teaching skills and his love of fishing and golf, especially with his grandsons, nephew and friends.
On May 12, 1956 in Tennessee, he married Modell Murray. She survives.
Surviving are his wife, Modell; two daughters, Devona G. Yates of Edwardsville, Alana K. (Denny) Yount of Alton; three grandchildren, Corey (Maria) Silveus, Brandon (Andrea) Silveus, Tommy (Kelsea) Silveus; five great grandchildren, Isaiah Silveus, Colin Stone, Donovan Yates, Rhys Yates, Emmett Silveus; four brothers, Johnny (Betty) Yates of Godfrey, Darrell (Evelyn) Yates of Bethalto, Lanny (Alice) Yates of Moro, Gary Yates of Bethalto; and three sisters, Sonjia (Don) Peacock of Godfrey, Julia (Kelly) Price of Dorsey, and Pam (Larry) Szwargulski of Alton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Michael Yates.
Visitation will be from 10 am until time of service at 11 am, Thursday, November 9 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River. Pastor David Schultz will officiate.
Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River where he had been a member.
Marks Mortuary in Wood River is entrusted with arrangements.
