Eloise Rathbone-McCuan Obituary

Eloise Elaine Rathbone-McCuan
Eloise Elaine Rathbone-McCuan passed away on September 2, 2024. She was born on August 3, 1945 in Alton, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Dorothy Rathbone.
She was raised in Alton, Illinois and attended the Alton public schools and graduated from Alton High School in 1963. She continued her scholastic education, obtained her PHD in Gerontology and became a professor of social policy.
Lee was the associate chief of social work at the Colmery-Oniel V.A. Medical Center and Adjunct Professor of Social Welfare at UKansas. She was also a professor of social policy and program evaluation at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. She has published four books, many journals and papers about geriatric daily care, elder abuse, mental health, self-neglect and alcoholism issues among older people. She was definitely noted in the field of social work, particularly known for her contributions to eldercare and social services. Lee's motivation to focus on elder care stemmed from a deep commitment to improving the quality of life for the vulnerable elderly.
She was an avid horsewoman, owning her own horses and participating in competitions. Along with this passion she cherished her rescue greyhounds and contributed greatly to their recovery.
Eloise was also known as Lee or Dr. Lee by her collogues and friends. Lee was a Christian. Lee is survived by best friends Cheryl Graves and Laura Marshall, both of Kansas City, Missouri, Georgia Petrie Harris and her daughter Jenny Dumais of Litchfield, Maine, Libby Davis Eilers (J.R) and Lynn Davis of Edwardsville, Illinois. Georgia, Lynn and Libby were lifelong friends of Lee. She is admired, loved and missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to local animal shelters.
