Gerald D. McLaughlin, 71, died Sunday, June 14, 2015, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
He was born September 2, 1943, in Hettick, Ill to Forest D. McLaughlin and Edna (Gregory) McLaughlin.
Gerald grew up in Piasa, Ill., graduated from Southwestern High School and attended two years at SIU-Edwardsville. He married the former Joy DeWerff, from Mt. Olive, Ill., on July 18, 1970. They moved from Alton to Ohio in 1975, with the Smith and Wesson Co. They returned to Godfrey in 1986. He retired in 2005 from the Godfrey, Ill. Post Office.
Gerald is survived by his wife. Also surviving are his brothers, Floyd Wiltshire of Plainview, Ill., David Earl McLaughlin of Bethalto, Donald E. McLaughlin, of Brighton, Ill., and their wives (all named Shirley); one sister, Verna Robinson of Shipman, Ill; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lloyd Raymond Wiltshire.
Baptized in 1961 as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, Jerry, (as he was know to family and friends) was a faithful minister till his death.
Cremation rites accorded by St. Louis Cremation Society of St. Louis, Mo. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2307 Union School Rd., Alton, on July 19, 2015, at 3:30 p.m.. with a meal to follow at the Rox-Arena, in Roxana, Ill.

Our hearts are heavy with sadness for Joy. You are in our prayers.
We will so miss his comments at meetings, his sense of humor and his fine example of faithfulness. He was an example of determination and loyalty.

Our heartfelt and sincere sympathy to Joy and family. Jerry was a wonderful and dedicated Bible teacher and our dear friend. We are blessed and thankful that our paths have crossed creating beautiful memories. Jerry remains in our hearts and prayers.
