Larry Joe Robbins
Glen Carbon - Larry Joe Robins, 85, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, December 4, 2023 at the home of his daughter, Lisa. Larry moved in with Lisa and her family in 2020 after the passing of his beloved wife of 44 years, Diann Lynn (nee, Miller) Robins. He spent the last three years of his life battling Alzheimer's Disease. Prior to this move, he spent most of his adult life in Collinsville.
Larry was born on December 18, 1937 in Cape Girardeau, MO, the son of Luther and Amy "Louise" (Hensley) Robins, and raised on his family's farm in Advance, MO. He grew up an avid hunter and fisherman and remained physically active up to his last few years of life when he had to finally give up water skiing and tree climbing. Larry worked at the AMOCO refinery in Wood River as an operator before retiring in 1992. He also proudly served as President of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union (OCAW). He immensely enjoyed spending time with his co-workers, participating in AMOCO's bowling, trap-shooting and softball leagues.
He and Diann loved to spend their time on Bull Shores Lake in Arkansas. They graciously shared their love for the lake life with their family and friends. Swimming, tubing, house boating, skiing, snorkeling, jug fishing, four wheeling, he did it all.Larry was a private pilot and loved to fly his Piper Cherokee. He was a dedicated friend, wonderful dad and grandfather, and loving husband to Diann. He will be remembered for his love of life, his ability to take a power nap, anytime, anywhere, his love for all babies, and his willingness to participate in any great adventure!
Larry is survived by his daughters, Tonja Robins, Lisa (Scott) Harmon; daughter-in-law, Donna (Thomas) Robins; grandchildren, Zachary (Jodi) Robins, Samuel (Courtney) Somma, Alyssa (David) Frost, Kristopher (Natalie) Trgovich, Matthew Trgovich, Sarah Harmon; and his great grandchildren, Presten and Zoey Robins, Taylin, Serenity, Avery, and Elsie Frost.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Louise; his wife, Diann; son, Larry Shane Robins; and brothers, Tom, John and Carl Robins.
In accordance with Larry's wishes, cremation rites were accorded.
A Memorial Visitation will be from 1pm until time of service at 3 pm, Saturday, December 16 at Marks Mortuary, 633 E. Lorena Av, Wood River IL.
