LYNDAL HAWKINS
BETHALTO — Lyndal L. Hawkins, 88, passed away at 8:39 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2016 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born on July 20, 1927, in Athensville, Illinois, the son of Lyle and Goldie (Worrall) Hawkins.
He married Mildred Benton on October 22, 1949, at the First Baptist Church of Cottage Hills. She survives.
Lyndal served his country in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was a foreman for the Wood River Township Highway Department for 25 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cottage Hills. He enjoyed camping, traveling and visiting with people. He loved sports and was especially an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, he is survived by his three children and their spouses, Stan and Sue Hawkins of Jerseyville, Larry and Jerilyn Hawkins of Bethalto and Lynda and John McCarthy of Franklin, Massachusetts; a son-in-law, Jerry Lepchenske of Bethalto; his grandchildren, Jantzen Hawkins, Jaelyn Hawkins, Jenna Hawkins Busch, Cody Hawkins, Tyler Hawkins, Nathan Hawkins, Rachel Hawkins, Leah McCarthy, Sara McCarthy and Lauren Lepchenske; four great-grandchildren, Nathan, Nora, Kaden and Jackson; his siblings and their spouses, Darrell (Dorothy) Hawkins of Scottsville, Illinois, and Judy (Ron) Wilkinson of Bethalto, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Vickie Hawkins-Lepchenske, and three brothers, Robert, Jim and Dale.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 2016 at the funeral home with Pastor Warren Brown officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military honors by Alton VFW Post 1308.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Cottage Hills Parking Lot Fund or the American Diabetes Association.

Mildred and Family - I am sorry for your loss. I remember as a child riding my bike across the street to your house and sitting on the front porch with Lyndal. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

WE ARE SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT LYNDAL WHAT A GREAT CHRISTIAN AND EXAMPLE HE SET FOR HIS. FAMILY AND FRIENDS. I USE TO WATCH HIM PLAY BASEBALL AT THE VFW IN COTTAGE HILLS WHAT A SMOOTH FIRST BASEMAN MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, LARRY AT THIS TIME.

We are so sorry for your loss!!Lyndal was such an honorable man and always had a smile on his face!!! He and Mildred raised some great kids!!! He was a fine Christian man, that we were proud to have known! Our prayers are with you all at this time.
