GODFREY - Markel "Dale" Frakes Sr., 85, died at 10:05 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2015, at Blu-Fountain in Godfrey.
He was born September 9, 192,9 in Hillsboro, Ill. the son of Paul T. and Gladys V. (Markel) Frakes Sr. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Japan and also served during the Korean War. Dale retired from the Industrial Engineering Department at Laclede Steel in Alton after 22 years and later became an outside consultant for 20 years with Garaventa Canada LTD. He was an active member of the Wanda United Methodist Church in Roxana and the American Legion of Alton. On December 10, 1949 in Piggot, Arkansas he married Shirley Holland and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters and two sons, Connie Sue Miller of Florida, Linda Patton(Roy) of Wood River, Mark Frakes of Alton and Kevin Frakes(Anne) of Dorsey; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul T. Frakes Jr. and one sister, Pearl Marie Barham.
There will be no services.
Memorials may be made to the Wanda United Methodist Church building fund.
