Martha Mathis Obituary
Medora - Martha Anne Mathis, 86, of Medora, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Mercy Hospital St. Louis.
She was born May 31, 1937, in Patterson, IL, the daughter of the late Troy Earl and Laura Belle (Leonard) Hazelwood.
On December 30, 1953, she married James T. Mathis. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage, prior to his passing on August 20, 1998.
Through the years Martha Anne covered her living room walls with photos of their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. When your photo was put on the wall, you had a piece of her heart, and she would be thinking of you every day.
Martha is survived by 4 children James "Dude" Mathis of Medora, Dale (Deonia) Mathis of Shipman, Tom (Becky) Mathis of Medora, and Marty (Michelle) Mathis of Shipman; son in law Steve Bethard of Morrisonville; special care giver Heidi Vowels of Bunker Hill; grandchildren Matt Bergschneider, Madee (Ryan) Christian, Steve (Jayne) Bethard, Sam Bethard, Shawn (Amy) Bethard, Tim (Jenny) Bethard, Letoyia (Clayton) VanDaley, Preston (Chelsie) Mathis, Donovan Mathis(Madison Bryant), and Lillyan (Drew) Hawkins; siblings Clyde (Thelma) Hazelwood, Cloyde Hazelwood, and Johnny (Arlin) Hazelwood; 21 great grandchildren with another expected in December; 3 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; daughter Virginia "Jinny" Bethard, grandson Logan Mathis; 10 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of Funeral Service at Noon on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Brighton.
Burial will follow at Chesterfield Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
