South Roxana - Nancy Ellen Hirschberg, 81, died at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at OSF St. Anthony's Healthcare Center in Alton. Born April 26, 1942 in Alton, she was the daughter of Russell and Florene (Goble) Golenor. She married Robert Charles Hirschberg. He preceded her in death in 2018. Mrs. Hirschberg retired from Winchester after 38 years of service. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to lunch with her best friend and sister Barbara Jean. She loved hanging out with family who she loved dearly. Mom was a truly remarkable, comforting, hard working woman who always knew the right things to say. Surviving is a daughter, Terrie Weible of Wood River, three sons, Randy Gibson of South Roxana, Russell Gibson (Michelle) of Dow, and Charles Hirschberg (Kelli) of Godfrey, grandchildren, Randy, Melisa, Madison, Kyle, Kelsie, Heather, Ryan, Jordan, Hope, Bailey, and Jerry and several great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Bill Golenor of Rosewood Heights, her sister and best friend, Barbara Dixon of South Roxana, and a beloved niece, Sherry Dixon Rudd of Roxana. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her son, Steven Gibson, grandson Mikey, and granddaughter Sabrina. Memorial services will be private at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
