WORDEN — Paul E. Opel, 82, of Worden, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021 at his residence under the care of Heartland Hospice.
He was born on December 22, 1938 in Jerseyville, the son of Charles W. and Alta R. (Libby) Opel. He married Lois J. Klepzig on July 4, 1960 in St. Charles, Missouri.
Paul worked at McDonnell Douglas for 41 years, before retirement in 1999, as a flight line electrician, also knows as a "EE". He also enjoyed wood working, gardening, cutting down trees, yard work, and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grand and great-grandchildren, and going to their sporting games.
Along with his wife, Lois, he is survived by his children, Darl (Judy) Opel of Holiday Shores, and Paula (Henry) Lenhardt of Holiday Shores; six grandchildren, Jake (Cassie) Opel, Travis (Camrey) Opel, Stephanie (fiancé Jarred Nord) Lenhardt, Rodger (girlfriend Taylor Fleig) Lenhardt, Sarah (Liam) Lenhardt, and Nik Opel; a great-grandchild, Logan Opel; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dale A. Opel; a brother, Glen Opel; and three sisters, Jean Hagemeier, June Pape, and Naomi Weller.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 8, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at Worden City Cemetery. Scott Potter and Brian Wagler will officiate. Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials can be made to Heartland Hospice and/or Worden Fire Department.
