VERNON DAVIS SR.
GODFREY — Vernon Leroy Davis Sr., 89, of Godfrey, died at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Shipman on Nov. 18, 1924, son of Roy and Clara Bessie (Howerton) Davis, now deceased.
He married Alice Mar Davis on Feb. 14, 1943, in St. Charles, Mo. She died Oct. 18, 2003.
He was a salesman at Alton Supply Company. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Hibbard Masonic Lodge #248, Brighton American Legion and Eastern Star.
Survivors include daughter, Wendy Ann Krause of Alton, son, Jerry, and Shirley David of Lake Ozark, Mo., daughter, Brenda, and Eric Collins of Alton, and son Vernon L. Jr. and Barbara Davis of Brighton; companion, Kitty Rutherford of Godfrey; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Harold Davis, sister, Joyce Wilson, grandson,Ricky Davis.
Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Targhetta & Wooldridge Funeral Home in Brighton, where services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 23. Rev. Ronald Bottens will officiate. Burial will be at Brighton Cemetery.
Memorials may be to the Kidney Foundation.

Vernon and his sons ran the Sinclair station in Brighton. I sure enjoyed the visits there. Jerry and Shirley, sorry for your loss. Your dad was a great man!
