Caroline Petrillo Obituary

Caroline Petrillo, 80, of Scranton, died Friday night at Mercy Hospital after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Nicholas J. Petrillo.

The daughter of the late Anthony and Rose Cavezza-Fasulo, Caroline was a devout Catholic. She was a parishioner of St. Lucy's Church, a member of St. Ann's Confraternity of the Christian Doctrine and an active associate of the Blue Army Shrine, a traveling dedication to the pilgrim shrine of Our Lady of Fatima. Caroline always made sure her family was on the right track spiritually. Often, she made it a priority to call her adult children and grandchildren to ensure they attended Mass each week.

Throughout much of her life, Caroline also loved to sing, yodel and play the guitar. In fact, she once earned an invitation to sing with Les Brown and his Band of Renown at the Masonic Temple in 1947.

Caroline just appealed to everyone around her, and could draw love out from perfect strangers. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

The family would also like to extend a very special and sincere thank you to the staff at DaVita, Mercy Hospital ICU and dialysis and Allied Medical.

The first-rate care that you provided to our mother in her time of need was incredible. To say it simply, you set our minds at ease when the family needed it most. We will be forever grateful.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Rose D'Amico and husband, William, Navarre, Fla.; a son, Rocco Petrillo and wife, Altagracia, Bronx, N.Y.; a daughter, Denise Rabuano, Scranton; and a son, Anthony Petrillo and wife, Lori, Scranton; five siblings, Mary Rossi, Hackettstown, N.J.; Ann Casale, Scranton; Roselyn Wahl, Scranton; Elizabeth "Toni" Kraucheunas, Scranton; and a stepbrother, Patrick Roberto; 13 grandchildren, Nicholas D'Amico, William D'Amico Jr., Carissa Van Fleet, Stephanie D'Amico, Rocco Petrillo Jr., Nicholas Petrillo II, Nova Juniper Hyacinth, Angelia Petrillo, Maria Petrillo, Gina Petrillo, Anthony Petrillo Jr., Caroline Rabuano and Michael Rabuano, as well as eight great-grandchildren. The grandsons will also be serving as pallbearers.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. from the Carl J. Savino Jr. Funeral Home, 157 S. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Lucy's Church, to be celebrated by the Rev. Louis Grippi. Entombment, Cathedrel Cemetery.

Friends may call Monday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m.

Memorials may go to DaVita, 475 Morgan Highway, Scranton, PA 18508.
