Carolyn A. Mauro, 78, of Mayfield, passed away Saturday, March 2, at Dunmore Health Care, Dunmore, after an extended illness. She was the widow of Thomas Mauro, who passed away in 2018.
Carolyn was born in Carbondale, Pa., on Dec. 12, 1945, a daughter of the late Florence (Brzuchalski) and Walter Mills. She was a graduate of Mayfield High School and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. She worked at RCA/Thomson Consumer Electronics for over 25 years followed by Scholastic Book Fairs until her retirement.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family and vacationing at the shore. She especially loved to cook, and everyone looked forward to the wonderful cookies she would bake at Christmastime. Her granddaughters were the joy of her life and she enjoyed spending time playing games and reading books with them.
The family would like to thank Dr. Neal Davis and his staff for their loving and compassionate care.
Carolyn is survived by a son, Thomas Mauro Jr., his wife, Lauren, and granddaughters, Kailey and Paige, of Nazareth; a sister, Florence (Babe) Hoyle and her husband, Glynn, Archbald; and a brother, Walter Mills and his wife, Marie, Mayfield.
She is also survived by nieces, Colleen Tyson, Ballston Spa, N.Y.; Karen North and husband, Jay, Guilderland, N.Y.; Jennifer Carey and husband, Dale, Archbald; Kimberly Cominsky and husband, Jason, Royersford, Pa.; and several beloved great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Rosalie Harvey.
The funeral will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Ryczak-Harrison Funeral Home Inc., 901 Lackawanna Ave., Mayfield, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Carbondale. Friends may call Thursday, 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in Jermyn Cemetery, Pa.
