Catherine Castellano Obituary

Catherine "Cathi" A. Castellano, 68, Dunmore, passed away Tuesday in the Scranton Health Care Center after a long, courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Caroline Fasula Sheridan. Her mother Caroline died January 30th of this year. She was a graduate of Bay Ridge High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., Class of 1962 and was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore. Cathi was employed for over twenty years at Marywood University as a housekeeping supervisor and she was currently employed at the Olive Garden for the past twelve years as a hostess.

She enjoyed traveling to many destinations and also visiting both local casinos and Atlantic City casinos, and attending dinners and movies with friends and family. She was, above all else, a loving mother, grandmother and sister who cherished every moment she shared with her granddaughter, Kaitlin. Cathi will be missed by her family more than words can accurately express.

A special thank you to her special friends, Patti Dee, Rose Scarantino, Rosie DeMarco, many close cousins, and her coworkers at the Olive Garden. She enjoyed the time spent with all of you over the years. Her family would like to also thank the nurses, aides and staff at the Scranton Health Care Center, for the love and compassion shown to Cathi during her stay with them.

Surviving are her daughter, Cheryl Castellano, Dunmore; her granddaughter, Kaitlin Kordish, Dunmore; her sister, Rosemary Buynak and her husband, Matthew, Roaring Brook Twp.; an uncle, Gerald Sheridan and an aunt, Fran Kupchak, both of Scranton; a nephew and godchild, Matthew Buynak Jr.; a niece, Lauren Buynak; and a niece, Margaret Ann Buynak, all of Roaring Brook Twp.; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Peter "Leggs" Castellano.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church in Dunmore. Interment will follow in the Dunmore Cemetery.

OG will never be the same without Cathi, it was always such a pleasure to spend a day with Cathi working and since she knew 95% of our guests personally, make new friends with her friends and relatives . I will always remember how fondly she spoke of " My Cheryl" and how proud she was whenever " My Granddaughter" would come to spend the night or when Cathi would take them on a trip. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family, she loved you with all her heart. Such a fantastic person, will so be missed.

Cheryl and family, I want to express my heartfelt sorrow I feel for the loss of your mom. Cathi was a good friend and we laughed so much with each other on our various trips and all the time at work. Sadly, I am in North Carolina visiting my family this week and will not be back until next week. I want you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers, with deepest sympathy..........Johnny Birtel, OG family.
