Edward J. Gruszewski, 69, a Scranton resident, died unexpectedly Saturday morning at Regional Hospital of Scranton.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Edward and Stella Puchalski Gruszewski. He was a graduate of South Scranton Catholic High School and was employed at Quadrant EPP until his retirement in 2017. Ed was a devoted member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, Greenwood, until the church closure. Later, he became a member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish, South Scranton, and served as an usher, lector and Eucharistic minister. He was an avid New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was also an Elvis Presley fan. Ed enjoyed crafting and traveling. He was an animal lover, and especially loved his sister's dog, Benji; and his companion Karin's pets, Snuggles and Fluffy.
Ed is survived by his sister, Diane Gruszewski, Woodbury, N.J.; his longtime companion, Karin Kreinberg, Scranton; and cousins.
The funeral will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Nicholas Chomko Funeral Home, 1132 Prospect Ave., South Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. in Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, St. Paul of the Cross Parish, 1217 Prospect Ave., South Scranton, by the Rev. Jonathan Kuhar. Interment at St. Mary of Czestochowa Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Thursday, 3 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul of the Cross Parish, 1217 Prospect Ave., Scranton, Pa. 18505 and/or to St. Joseph's Center, 2010 Adams Ave., Scranton.
