Eugene Joseph Kane Jr. of Clarks Summit and Vero Beach, Florida, died Saturday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. Born in Scranton, he was the son of Joan Flynn Kane and the late Eugene J. Kane. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Yasmine Douaihy-Kane; four daughters, Margo (Atlanta, Ga.), Nora (Winston-Salem, N.C.), Abigale (Miami, Fla.) and Lily (New York City); a sister, Kathleen Calpin (Boulder, Colo.); brother, Richard and his wife, Erin (Clarks Summit, Pa.); a sister-in-law, Margaret Kane, widow of Jack Kane, (Clarks Summit, Pa.); brother, Christopher and wife, Josie, of Philadelphia; brother, Edward and wife, Christine (Jupiter, Fla.); brother, Michael and wife, Dorothy (Devon, Pa.); and sister, Kelly Stark and husband, Alex, (Clarks Summit, Pa.); brother-in-law, Said and wife, Jane Douaihy, (Scranton, Pa.); brother-in-law, Thomas and wife, Francine Douaihy, (Scranton, Pa.); sister-in-law, Gina Douaihy (Scranton, Pa.); brother-in-law, Vincent and wife, Katharine Douaihy (Harveys Lake, Pa.); and several nieces and nephews. Gene was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend. He loved living on the ocean in Vero Beach, Florida, where he resided for the past 16 years until his return to Scranton in 2020. He loved the water and enjoyed surfing and swimming in the ocean. Gene played guitar and sang in his band, Plan C (for when plan A and B just wouldn't do). He was a member of the John's Island Country Club Chorus and the Notre Dame Catholic Church chorus. He liked eating candy and tres leches. He served as the vice president of the Vero Beach Beachside ToastMasters Club. Gene was a Life Savings certified swim instructor, a black belt in the Korean martial art Tang So Do, and a fishing enthusiast. He attained his real estate sales license and was active in the Vero Beach real estate market.
He was an amazing father. Whatever activities or hobbies his daughters pursued, Gene supported them and was their biggest fan. Whether it was surfing, playing guitar, practicing yoga or painting, Gene was committed to what made them happy.
Gene was a lot of things to many people, but above all he was a dedicated and loving father who would do anything to ensure his family was taken care of. He always said "see the glass as half full, not half empty," and he brought that positivity and light to everyone who had the pleasure to call him a friend.
The Kane family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the nurses and doctors in the ICU at Regional Hospital and all of the nurses and therapists at Traditional Home Healthcare.
Gene battled his rare illness MSA, multiple systems atrophy with courage and determination. He was a fighter and worked hard every single day to stay physically and mentally strong. His illness could never crush his spirit or his devout faith in Jesus Christ. He always taught his daughters to work hard and finish what they started whatever the task. He worked hard to see God's grace in everything and everyone until the very end. He was adored and he will be missed.
We ask all of our friends and family to rejoice and remember Gene's life and spirit filled with joy and hope and light. Wear your favorite colors and be happy. Gene loved the color purple. He was a proud Prep Cavalier and a Scranton Royal. Let's fill our hearts with light and hope. That's how Gene would want us to remember him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 2, at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Gregory, 330 North Abington Road, Clarks Green. The burial will be at Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may visit the church Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. for the wake. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gene's memory to the Boys Club of Scranton, St. Francis of Assisi Soup Kitchen or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

My deepest condolences to the family. I was only acquainted with Gene from working at Kane in HR. He was always very friendly and would take the time to say hello even if I saw him outside of work. Gene attended many work functions in support of the associates at Kane. I, along with many others at Kane, will miss him.
