George Burns Obituary

George Donald Burns, Clarks Summit, passed away Sunday at the Clarks Summit Senior Living Center after being stricken ill. His wife of 70 years is the former Bette Morris. The couple was married on July 2, 1943.

Born in Scranton on August 6, 1925, he was the son of the late John and Anne Jones Burns. He was educated in Scranton schools and prior to his retirement, he had been employed for 42 years by the AM International Company, formerly AM Multigraph. George was honored by being a member of the company's 100 Club, which was a club reserved for its top salespeople. He was a dedicated member of Trinity Congregational Church, West Scranton, and served the church as a trustee and deacon as well as chairman of its Board of Trustees. Among his other numerous affiliations, he was a Free and Accepted Mason and Shriner as well as past president of the Handsome Lake Cottagers Association. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving during World War II.

George will be deeply missed by family and friends. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and papa. He was our strength, pillar and moral compass. He was an accomplished Jack-of-all-trades and will live in the family's hearts forever.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Clarks Summit Senior Living for the wonderful care given to George.

Also surviving are his daughter, Bette Ann Damron and her husband, Les of Middleboro, Mass.; sons, Dr. H. Donald and his wife, Mary Ann of Harleysville; and G. Kevin and his wife, Lynda of Scranton; grandchildren, Stacey, Jennifer, Melanie, Eric, Melinda Arcuri and Deanna Rosencrans; great-grandchildren, Madison, Mackenzie, Olivia, Sophia, Drew, Christina, Iris, Tyler, Landry and Logan; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Brian Albert, in 1983; brothers Edgar, John and Bob.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Trinity Congregational Church, 229 S. Main Ave., West Scranton.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the church. Interment, private for immediate family in Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Congregational Church, 229 S. Main Ave., Scranton, PA 18510.

I just found out of George's passing from my mother Carol (Balon) Williams. The last time I saw him and Betty was at my wedding. He will be missed...my prayers and love go out to the family.
