James M. Mack Sr., 91, of Dunmore, died Wednesday morning at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He and his wife, the former Mary Castellano, celebrated 65 years of marriage on Oct. 4.
Born in Scranton, son of the late James and Ann Biggar Mack, he was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and the University of Scranton, and also served as a medic with the United States Army during the Korean War. For over 38 years, he was employed at the University of Scranton print shop, and went on to establish his own business, the James Mack Printing Company, which continues to be in operation, entrusted to his son, James Jr., to this day.
He was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore and for many years had served as eucharistic minister at St. Rocco's Church. James was also a longtime member of the Dunmore Rotary, as well as the Keystone Chapter of UNICO where he served as past president and as a member of the board. He enjoyed traveling with his family and working up until his illness.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, James Mack Jr. and wife, Joellen; and John Paul Mack and wife, Maria; a daughter, Maria Summa and husband, Paul; grandchildren, Antonia Summa, Rocco Mack and Anthony Mack; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Doris Benson.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in St. Rocco's Church, Kurtz Street, Dunmore. Interment to follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Family and friends may pay their respects Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
