Janet Hoban Obituary

Janet M. Hoban, 87, of Olyphant, formerly of Peckville, died Sunday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. She was the wife of Joseph M. Hoban, who died Dec. 22, 2016.

Born in Peckville, daughter of the late Martin and Margaret Morgan Ward, she was a graduate of Blakely High School and Eastern Bible Institute, and was a member of the Cornerstone Alliance Church, Dickson City. Before retirement, she worked as a seamstress in the local garment industry. She was an expert seamstress and worked for well known fashion and bridal boutiques. Janet was an organist and pianist for many local churches including the Cornerstone Alliance Church. She was active in an instrumental and choral group for many years from the Peckville Assembly of God Church that would visit, perform for and minister to patients in the Mid Valley Hospital on Sunday mornings. She touched the lives of many in the community and was adored by her family and friends. Her passion was to love and serve Jesus her Savior and to point people to Him through her life.

Surviving are a son, Joseph T. Hoban and wife, Kathie, Lake Ariel; two daughters, Beth Bertone and husband, John, Niagara Falls, Canada; and Rebecca Kriefski and husband, Scott, Moscow; seven grandchildren, Lindsey, Brent, Christian, Ketan, Justin, Morgan and Lauren; four great-grandchildren, Melody, Karalyn, Alannah and Nathan; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, David Ward.

The funeral will be Saturday with a memorial service at 2 p.m. in the Cornerstone Alliance Church, 938 Main Ave., Dickson City, by the Rev. Nestor Soto. There will be a visitation at the church from noon until the time of service. Interment was held at the convenience of the family in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Peckville.

I remember going to Janet's house when I was young to play with her children, Beth and Rebecca. They were our neighbors. She was sweet and welcoming. God rest her soul.
