Jeffrey L. Holgate, 68, of Bushkill, died on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021, while vacationing in South Carolina. He was the husband of Cathy L. (Transue) Holgate, with whom he shared 21 years of marriage.
Born on Aug. 27, 1953, in Scranton, he was a son of the late Harper and Edna (Williams) Holgate. He served in the United States Army from 1973 until his discharge in 1993 as a staff sergeant. He then worked for the National Park Service in Delaware Water Gap until his retirement.
Jeff was a member of the George N. Kemp Post 346 American Legion in East Stroudsburg,
He was an avid hunter, loved his rescue animals and was always helping someone.
In addition to his wife, surviving are a daughter, Jennifer Holgate Stender, of Fond du Lac, Wis.; five stepchildren, Franklin Van Why Jr. and wife, Linda, of Stroudsburg; Matthew Van Why, of Bartonsville; Devon Van Why, of Stroudsburg; David John and wife, Christine, of Benton, Ky.; and Tammy Evans, of Elizabethtown, Ky.; 16 grandchildren, Kassidy Holgate, Logan Stender, Savannah Stender, Garrett Stender, Summer Stender, Christopher Van Why, Joshua Van Why, Brittany McCabe, Krista Johnson, Emily Johnson, Nichole Johnson, Melody Ledford, Nathaniel John, Brooklyn Evans, Christopher Evans and Paige Arnold; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Deborah Graham, of Carbondale; and Sandy Holgate, of Jessup; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Beau.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Mountain Stream Baptist Church, 305 Dartmouth Drive, East Stroudsburg, Cremation was private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to Mountain Stream Baptist Church or to an animal rescue of one's choice.
