John Fetsock Obituary

John W. Fetsock Sr. of Scranton died Saturday in the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. His wife is Donna Trapani Fetsock. The couple would have celebrated 44 years of marriage on July 15.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Walter and Mary Rodalunas Fetsock, he was educated in the Scranton School District, a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, class of 1969. He was an Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of sergeant, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Excellence in Sharp Shooting. John was employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. After his retirement, he was a funeral assistant for many years.

John enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his two granddaughters, who are the apples of his eyes.

He will be remembered by his most favorite saying "Could be worse."

He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, and he will be deeply missed for his kindness and giving personality.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart, especially his nurse Shelly, as well as the various doctors and nurses that took care of him for these last years.

Also surviving are a son, John W. Fetsock Jr. and wife, Meg of Lakeville; his granddaughters, Morgan and Brooke Fetsock; two sisters, Marlene Tonkin and Jean Dixon and husband James; two brothers-in-law, Martin Walsh and wife, Janice; John Trapani and wife, Dorothy; two sisters-in-law, Johanne Fox and husband, Jim; and Angela Griffiths; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

John was a student of mine at Scranton technical high school. He was a good student. He came to my anatomy and physiology class to explain the embalming procedure. He was a fine young man.
