Joseph Bellucci Obituary

Our fun loving quirky son, Joseph S. Bellucci, died Friday morning, July 1, 2016. As Joey's sister, cousins and friends would say, he was the best popcorn and pillow-fort maker there ever was.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of Sante Bellucci and the former Michelle Kazmarek. A graduate of Dunmore High School, class of 2013, he was the captain of the golf team and known to his friends as "Scooter." Joey was employed by National Debit Card Network.

Joey was raised in a loving home with his parents, brother and sister. He was extremely close to his Grandma Mary, who he loved dearly. If asked, friends would say that Joey had the biggest heart of anyone they knew.

Joey's loves among, other things, were bacon, golf, his dog, Rusty, and especially his longtime girlfriend, Stephanie, who along with his entire family, stood by him through his battle with addiction.

We loved Joey with all of our hearts, but we now know that was not enough to shield him from the world. We hope by acknowledging the issue of addiction within our family, our wish is to bring awareness to what is happening in our community and the damage that is caused by drugs and alcohol.

Also surviving are a brother, Santino Bellucci; sister, Angelina Bellucci, both of Dunmore; paternal grandmother, Mary Bellucci; maternal grandfather, Robert Vitale; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Joseph "Pepe" Bellucci; and maternal grandmother, Lois Borgna; and "Cookie" Borgna.

A private memorial service will be conducted at the convenience of the family in Queen of Angels Parish in St. Michael's Church, First Avenue, Jessup. Interment in St. John's Cemetery will also be private.

Memorial contributions may be made in Joey's memory to the Department of Human Services Office of Drug and Alcohol Programs, 507 Linden St., 5th Floor, Scranton, PA 18503.

Arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care of the Arthur A. Albini Funeral Home, 1003 Church St., Jessup

I'm so sorry to the family for your loss. Joey was in my third grade class. Teaching him was an absolute joy. I loved him! He made me laugh every single day and made sure I knew everything about every video game he played. He told me he didn't need to learn his times table because he could add very quickly. I am so sad to hear of his death and commend his family for bringing attention to this problem in our community. You are all in my prayers.

I did not know your son or your family, but came across his obituary on facebook. I'm sorry for your loss. I have experienced drug addiction with several friends and family members and know all too well that they become people we hardly recognize, yet we know deep down how good they really are if not for drugs. I commend you for having the courage to address addiction in his obituary. It truly is at near epidemic levels locally and the potency of street drugs worse than originally thought. May your son rest in peace and may God Bless you as you mourn his loss.

I did not know Joseph but am a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. I am so very sorry for your loss and want to say, a family who would submit an obituary as beautiful as Joseph's is surely a family who loved him very much. I commend your bringing addiction into the light regarding Joseph and am certain it will have an impact on many in our community, especially those who are working on recovery. Be assured, his passing is on the lips of many at our meetings and more prayers than you can imagine are being said for him. It is always tragic when we lose one of our own but be assured, God is using his passing to reach out to many others who don't accept the seriousness of addiction.
Again, my condolences and God bless you and your entire family for sharing your heartbreak and sorrow so others like Joseph might live. I know Joseph's beautiful smile is shining down on all of you for using his passing in such a positive way.

I only knew Joe for a short period of time, but I seen him at his best for 30 days. He was an amazing young man, he could not talk more about his family or how he was going to beat this and live the rest of his life. I looked at him like a younger brother, wanting nothing but good things for him. My brother passed away at 32 of addiction in December. As immediate family we all know the horrors of this disease, and the daily struggle. I really believe that they suffered enough and God took them so they never have to struggle again. His life ended here on earth, but his spirit will never die. When the time comes you will see him again. I know no words cant sooth your pain now, but one days your memories will. God Bless Joe and the entire Bellucci family.
