Joseph Scopelliti Obituary

Joseph A. Scopelliti, 80, of Peckville died Wednesday at the Geisinger Community Medical Center following a brief illness. His wife of 56 years is the former Sharon Piasecki.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Anthony and Catherine Zapalone Scopelliti. A graduate of Scranton Technical High School, class of 1960, he proudly served in the United States Army. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a mechanic for Mayflower. He was a loving husband and father. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandson Cole. They spent hours and hours fishing and woodworking, among other outdoor activities. Joe was very outgoing and loved to both hear and tell a good story. His kindhearted nature and wit leaves his loved ones with countess memories.

Also surviving are daughter, Jaime Skotleski and husband William, Olyphant; grandson, Cole Skotleski; brothers, twin brother John Scopelliti and wife Debbie, Peckville, Tony Scopelliti and companion Cheryl Ruby, Lake Ariel; sister-in-law, Gail Piasecki and companion Tony Piaggione, Wynwood; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Carol Casella.

The funeral will be conducted Thursday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Paul of the Cross Parish at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave. Interment with military honors in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Scranton, will be private. Friends and family may pay their respects Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
