Joseph Vavrick Obituary

Joseph M. Vavrick, 74, a lifelong resident of Dunmore, died Monday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton after a brief illness.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Stephen F. and Mary Ehnot Vavrick, he attended Dunmore public schools. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and also was a member of the former All Saints Church, both in Dunmore. Before retirement, he worked for the Borough of Dunmore Department of Public Works. He was also a regular fixture at Drinker Pizza in Dunmore, having worked there for many years.

Surviving are a sister, Dolores Vavrick, Dunmore; a sister-in-law, Adrienne Vavrick, Dickson City; a niece, Michelle DeStefano and her husband, James, Harrisburg; a nephew, Stephen Vavrick Jr., Dickson City; an uncle, Joseph Ehnot, Dunmore; a great-niece and great-nephew, Taylor and Dominick DeStefano.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Stephen J. Vavrick, who died in 2010.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
