Julia A. Mazza passed away on June 17, 2022, at the age of 102.
Julia was born on March 21, 1920, in Mayfield, the daughter of Mary and Andrew Fedorchak. Her three children maintained a vigil and were present at her side as she passed to her eternal reward. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Mazza, attended Mayfield schools and was salutatorian of her high school class.
She received scholarships to both Bucknell and Lehigh universities but was unable to attend due to financial limitations. It was common to meet one of her classmates who would praise her for her academic skills. Julia was a very loving and caring mother whose focus was always on caring for her children, husband, mother and family relatives whom she visited with her family on weekends and holidays.
Julia was an excellent cook, being especially skilled at making all varieties of lasagna. Julia started every day with a cup of tea, reading the newspaper. She enjoyed gardening and working crossword puzzles (in competition with her sister, Jay). She volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital, American Red Cross blood drives and various food drives.
Julia is survived by her daughter, Mary Mazza of Archbald; sons, Anthony (Diane) Mazza of Binghamton, N.Y., and Dr. Frank (Karen) Mazza, MD, of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Erica (Josh) Loewenguth of Rochester, N.Y., Christopher Mazza of Reston, Va., and from Austin, Texas: Jennifer (Edward) Talcott, Brian (Elissa) Mazza and Jeffrey Mazza; great-grandchildren, Liliana and Violet Loewenguth, Max and Victoria Talcott, and Harper Rose Mazza. The family thanks the staff at Celebration Villa, Forest City Personal Care, Willowbrook, Traditional Hospice and her personal physician, Matthew Haley, MD, for the loving care they provided to Julia during her extended stays and final journey.
A funeral service will be held at St. John's Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Tuesday, June 21, at 10 a.m. with a viewership one hour before the service. Arrangements are by Ryczak Harrison Funeral Home, Mayfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Julia's name to St. John's Russian Orthodox Cathedral, 706 Hill St., Mayfield, PA 18433.

Aunt Julia was a wonderful person. I finally was able to read her obituary. I will always remember in the bakery shop her giving my mother two cupcakes for us to take home. I miss the visits.
