Larry "Bear" Hebron, 64, of Scranton, Pennsylvania, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2022. If you asked a hundred people who Larry Hebron was, they'd all give you a different story: a secret agent, a superhero, the strongest man in the world, the world's biggest baby, a movie star, the world's richest business man, a lost prince from an alternate universe, or the last unicorn tamer in the galaxy.
Larry was none of these things or perhaps he was all of them. What he was, was a storyteller. From the time he was young, Larry was constantly spinning yarns. It didn't matter if he was trying to entertain his seatmate during a boring lesson or trying to distract his brothers and sisters from the fact that the cupboards were bare. No matter the occasion, Larry had a story. It's no surprise that Larry featured himself as the hero of most of his tales.
Larry was born on Dec. 1, 1957, in Scranton, Pennsylvania to George Hebron and Sherlanna Jackson. Larry graduated from Technical High School and attended Lackawanna Junior College. Larry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was very proud to serve his country. Most of all, Larry loved movies and was best known for his presence in the downtown movie theater, all who went there enjoyed seeing him and his enthusiasm for movies and people.
Larry is survived by three children, Babe: Michaeline Larraine Hebron, Bud: Tristan Eric James Hebron and Beaut: Brittany Nicole Hebron; surviving brothers, Eugene Hebron and Charles Perry; surviving sisters, Karen Perry and Shantha Perry; many nieces, nephews and grandchildren, all whom dearly loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Sherlanna; and his brothers, Ronald Hebron and Kenneth Hebron.
Larry suffered from dementia at an early age and fought through his disease until the very end. Family and respect for family meant everything to Larry. Anyone who knew Larry knew his story and knew he was a hero to those he loved. "I know who I am though I am not the person I used to be. I know where I am from though I don't remember where I was yesterday. From what I have been told I am headed out on a journey and I really cant comprehend why. Little do I know that this journey will last my lifetime. I don't need to pack for this journey, so they tell me that all I need is the love and support of my family. I heard the journey is mostly up hill that there is twists and turns, with no turning back, bridges to cross, that at times my family will end up carrying me and that I will never return. My family is making this journey with me until our paths do part and as they encourage me to take flight into the light, above I will leave loving my family as much as they each love me and I will live on in their hearts and in their memories."
A celebration of life service will be held Oct. 29 at 1:30 p.m. at Bethel AME Church, 716 N. Washington Ave., Scranton, PA 18510. Instead of flowers, we ask families and friends to please consider donating time, money or gifts to the veteran centers, assisted living homes and foundations supporting advancements in neurodegenerative diseases. This is the most beautiful obituary I have ever read. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Larry or his family but wanted to tell you how this obituary touched my heart. God bless all of you at this time. I am sure heaven just got a little more interesting.
